Title:  Grand Trunk Western #8380
Description:  Built by Baldwin Locomotive Works in 1929. The following was from a display on the locomotive: The United States Railroad Administration (USRA) developed a dozen standardized locomotive designs during World War I. Most later 0-8-0s were based on the USRA design. Grand Trunk Western and its parent, Canadian National, bought over seventy USRA-inspired 0-8-0s from various builders during the 1920s for use throughout GTWs Chicago-Detroit system. GTW 8380 was one of fourteen 0-8-0s obtained by Northwestern Steel & Wire in the early 1960s. Several were converted from coal to oil and used for switching at the companys plant in Sterling, Illinois, where hundreds of other locomotives were scrapped. GTW 8380 remained in service until its donation to IRM in 1981. Other 0-8-0s from Northwestern Steel & Wire (including GTW 8300, the first of the class) have been stored or used for trades and other purposes, and have not been moved to Union.
